Safeway Online Grocery Shopping Review

Safeway Grocery Delivery Review Key take aways from my first experience shopping online for groceries at safeway.com

Ok so I love to cook but don’t enjoy grocery shopping it takes a lot of time and sometimes finding what you want and staying on budget is tough.  Here are the good and the not so good of my first experience.

The Good

Running total of your cart. As you shop your cart is updated with the total in it. This can really keep you on track with your budget.

Intuitive website, you can shop by aisle or you can type in the search box if you’re not sure which isle it would be in.  This was helpful and there was only one item I couldn’t get online and that was fresh olives from the olive bar. I could have gotten canned or jarred olives but personally I don’t like the taste. So I had to skip the olives for this week.

Virtual notepad. I didn’t actually see this until after I ordered but I have a feeling it will become very handy.  Use the notepad feature to make your grocery list as you go. This is similar to having a notepad on your refrigerator door to add to.

Free first delivery. It doesn’t cost much to get your groceries delivered and what’s to lose when the first delivery doesn’t cost you a dime. Use the code Easy7 to get your first grocery ordered delivered for free.

Linked to your Safeway card… You mean this card I have had for years is now actually serving a purpose for me the consumer…. Awesome. I can see what I’ve gotten in the past and add to my cart. It really sped things up.

The produce they brought was beautiful. In fact I think they did a better job picking the fruits and veggies than I would have.

They give you a time frame of when they will deliver your groceries. They were actually a couple of minutes early. Which was awesome because I didn’t have to wait around until they got here.

I didn’t have to carry the groceries in because the delivery guy brought them right to my kitchen. This was awesome!

The not so good

Order 1-2 days before you need your groceries. Unlike going to the store your self and getting the groceries immediately it will take a little time to get the groceries delivered to your door.

Allow a 10% buffer for your budget in case of substitutions. The store may not have the items you wanted so you can say it’s ok for substitutions however they may cost more.  My order only had one substitution.  Because of the substitution and the variable price of the produce due to estimated weight vs actual weight my $70 order ended up being $76.

Bottom line.

Great experience will do it again.
